Do You Need a Permit to Have a Bartender at a Private Party in Tampa?

October 1, 2026 · 2 min read

It is one of the first questions hosts ask, and the answer is simpler than most people fear. This is general information, not legal advice, and your venue's rules always come first.

Private party, no sales, no license needed

A liquor license in Florida is about selling alcohol. At a private event where you bought the alcohol and your guests are not paying for drinks, nothing is being sold. That is exactly how dry-hire bartending works: you provide the alcohol, and BigCee Exotic BarLuxe provides the licensed bartender, the mobile bar, and the service. No one is running a cash bar, so there is no license to obtain for a party at your home.

Where it changes

  • Charging guests for drinks, selling tickets that include alcohol, or running a cash bar turns the event into a sale. That needs proper licensing and is not something a dry-hire service does.
  • Public parks and city-owned spaces in Tampa and Hillsborough County often have their own alcohol permits and rules. Check with the parks department before you book the pavilion.
  • Rented venues, clubhouses, and HOA amenity centers usually have an alcohol policy in the rental agreement. Some require a licensed bartender, which BigCee is. Some ask for a certificate of insurance from vendors. Ask early.

What the bartender's license covers

BigCee is a licensed bartender. That matters to venues, and it matters to you as the host. She checks ages, serves mocktails to anyone under 21, and monitors consumption through the event. She can pace, limit, or refuse service to a guest who has had enough. Those decisions protect the host, and they are written into the service agreement you sign when you book.

Your checklist as the host

  • Confirm the venue's alcohol policy in writing
  • Ask whether they require a licensed bartender or a vendor insurance certificate
  • Keep the event private: invited guests, no drink sales
  • Plan rides home and keep water on the bar
  • Buy the alcohol yourself and have it ready by 7:30 PM the day before

If a venue asks for paperwork from the bartender, send the request through the contact page with the venue name and date, and BigCee will sort out what they need before the event.
